Humanitarian Use Devices

Humanitarian use devices (HUDs) are for treatments of rare diseases or conditions within a limited patient population. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, “Devices are eligible for HUD designation if they are designed to treat or diagnose a disease or condition that affects or is manifested in fewer than 4,000 individuals in the United States per year.”

Dr. Lopes is trained to use the following HUDs:

  • Onyx® Liquid Embolic System for Aneurysm
  • Neuroform Microdelivery Stent
  • Wingspan™ Stent System with Gateway™ PTA Balloon Catheter
  • ENTERPRISE™ Vascular Reconstruction Device (VRD) and Delivery System (DS)
  • Low-Profile Visualized Intraluminal Support Device (LVIS® and LVIS® Jr.)
